I would like to talk about something very important… Disney. I may not talk about it that much in my blog, but I happen to be the biggest Disnerd there is. I've seen the Disney classics, I cannot seem to pick to a favorite princess because I personally love them all, I know a majority of their songs (lyrics and voicing), and I watch the same movies over and over… including the ones that are deemed terrible or just 'meh'. Speaking of which, I was born in the nineties. Meaning, I did not get to experience the Disney Renaissance or at least I did not get to experience them in theaters. My childhood flourished during the 2000's and this was a time when Disney did not do so well. There were a lot of factors that contributed to this. There was the rise of 3D animation and the decline of the 2D, and the departure of major people like Michael Eisner and Jeffrey Katzenberg. As a kid who lived throughout that time, I personally enjoyed the cartoon series shown on television. 

This era for Disney was known as the Experimental Age. It had other names too, like the Post-Renaissance and the Second Dark Age. The latter seemed almost accurate for Disney Animation but I've always thought that the Experimental Age seemed much more fitting with what Disney was doing during the time. This was the era when they decided to buy Pixar, and I personally think the films they put out at the time were infinitely better. But our focus for this blog is just purely Disney and one of my favorite films during this period, which was Treasure Planet.

Today, we see these films like Treasure Planet as absolutely underrated. They have beautiful animation, realistic characters, and compelling stories! Yet they did not earn so much money, nor did they have the greatest reception among critics. What happened?

It has officially been 13 years since Avatar: The Legend of Aang has graced our television screens. The Nickelodeon show is without a doubt, one of the best--if not, the best animated television show in history. It has raised a lot of bars in storytelling, characters, and world-building. But most of all, it has proved to us that cartoons do not necessarily have to be mindless violent forms of entertainment for children. It can have substance and meaning, and we can draw a lot of important life lessons from the story of Aang and his friends.

The characters are iconic. Everyone stands out in their own way and their different personalities are not only amusing but also empowering. Individually, they are compelling; but put them all together as Team Avatar, they become ten times better. The writers behind this surely knew how to write character arcs. It is no certain that everyone in a group have their own role to contribute. Each character teach us something very important about ourselves. Team Avatar is in a way, a symbolism of what a wholesome individual and the characters are simply the parts. They represent parts of an individual's psyche, the Avatar psyche. What is the Avatar Psyche? Well, Team Avatar has always been about saving the world from the tyranny of Fire Nation. In essence, it is a noble heroic kind of individuality, that always strives to do the right thing in the end. Now what kind of parts do these characters play in any psyche?

Hey there, guys. As you may have noticed, I went past the Valentine's Day deadline for this particular post. I delayed this on purpose because the message behind this whole thing is the kind that we tend to ignore, especially when we strive for love. You probably think this is cynical me trying to tell you that love does not exist. On the contrary, I do believe in love. Rather, I think love is being viewed the wrong way.

THE WORLDY VIEW OF LOVE

As insecure as we can be, we can become very selfish and demand unrealistic expectations for this entity called love. We come up with lists of ideal traits for a partner and fantasize about romantic gestures (most prevalent during this time of the month), because we have this little belief that we are meant to be valued and that romantic love is the solution. Then we are hit with the reality, that love is not treated as this passive cure. You eventually learn that depending on your relationship on shallow romantic gestures does not keep the spark alive in the long run. And when the love story ends, we make this hasty conclusion that love was never real, and it's all just a shallow feeling. This is because some of us expected it to fix our plain lives in the most magical way possible, kind of like the ones we see in movies or on TV.

But love is not to be dealt with, selfishly. Love is putting all yourself and your prejudices aside, just to make room for someone who is worth that kind of effort. In short, it is a shared act of sacrifice, acceptance, kindness, & respect. Emphasis on shared, especially if this feeling is revolved around two people. Again, a lot of people ignore this side of love because it involves sacrifice. It's a very taboo word because sacrifice means letting go.  

Ironically, that's what the anime, "Paradise Kiss" has taught me.  

PARADISE KISS' PORTRAYAL OF THIS WORLDY VIEW OF LOVE

Created under the wing of MADHOUSE, Paradise Kiss came out during the 2000's and it is a 12-episode anime based on the manga by Ai Yawaza (Nana) of the same name. It even came out with a live action film produced by Warner Bros in 2011. It starts out as a romance between a high school student named Yukari and an aspiring fashion designer named George, but it ends as an coming-of-age story. It falls under the genre, "Josei" which means it is an adult anime, portraying realistic dilemmas that people deal with in everyday life. So it is safe to say that this is a tragic love story that ends with hitting the right notes.       

Although there were losses, the characters gain important lessons…even though it was painful. The characters do not end up together, but they were able to pursue their dreams. Paradise Kiss presents an interesting conflict between fantasy and reality. The dream was to simply have everything; their love, their friends, their recognition, and achievements. But the reality tells them that they cannot have it all. The anime revolves around these two polarizing forces, and the stakes become high when the fantasy wrestles with reality. Basically, our main characters want their dreams to meet with their reality. 

CARDCAPTOR SAKURA || Anime Review

Hey guys and happy happy new year! I think one of my resolutions should definitely be returning to blogging. And here I am with another anime review about one of the classics, which is Cardcaptor Sakura. It has returned just recently with another brand new arc, and I intend to commemorate that by going back to the last three seasons it has. It is without a doubt, the best anime I've seen in my entire life. It has a special place in my heart, making it my favorite anime of all time. I've seen this show countless of times, and I've seen it again recently...and it still is the best in my book. So you have no idea, how excited I was when I learned it was getting a sequel...both in manga and in anime.

Cardcaptor Sakura is based on the famous shojou manga of the same name back in 1996 and it is created by one of my favorite illustrators in anime and in manga, CLAMP. They have created other iconic manga turned to anime, like Chobits, X, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles (with the characters of Cardcaptor Sakura as the main characters!) and Clamp Detective School. It was then adapted into anime in 1998 by none other than, Madhouse and as you all know it is a very famous studio in Japan. Now this anime is one of the cornerstones of the Shojou genre. It is an anime that was not only appealing to young girls, but also to older audiences and it is one of the most memorable anime shows. However just because it is memorable and an all-time favorite, does it mean it's ground-breaking or simply good? Let's find out.

NARUTO 101: Tackling Misconceptions and Confusing Tales

Hey guys! Welcome back! Let's take a break from the anime reviews because recently I've been getting a lot of confused questions from friends regarding the Naruto fandom. Even if it recently ended last summer, I totally understand why people still do not get the show and I'm pretty sure the reason is quite obvious to hardcore fans. This is what you get when there are just so many filler arcs. This post is here to guide you on common tales and questions that made you confused (and possibly anxious) about the anime. I will be talking common stories and misconceptions that are causing people to speculate about many things, but still can't get a full conclusion to. This is also for fans who have not been following the show religiously, and are probably too lazy to get into it. Believe me, if you are into Naruto then you will need to understand that these types of fans exist for this particular show. Hopefully it will put everything into perspective, since everything that will be mention are definitely published in mangas, novels, and of course the anime. Ore Monogatari!! (My Love Story!!) || Anime Review

It has been a while since I did a review on a very simple anime, and it has been difficult for me to review anime shows with a "slice-of-life" genre because of how purposely shallow and straightforward the storyline and animation can be. But as a reviewer of anything anime, I think it would be fair to just be a bit more open-minded, and to give animes with a "slice-of-life" theme a try.

My Anime List

With school fast approaching, I think it is very timely to review another anime related to school...even if the show itself is barely about school. But for this post, I will be reviewing one of the most popular romantic anime shows, Ore Monogatari!! or also known as, My Love Story!! in English. Based on the romantic comedy manga series of the same name, Ore Monogatari was directed by Morio Asaka (Nana, Cardcaptor Sakura, Chobits, and Gunslinger Girl) and written by Natsuko Takahashi (Boys over Flowers 2, The Count of Monte Cristo the anime, Akatsuki No Yona). The studio for this anime is none other than Madhouse, a very well-known company that has produced a lot of great anime such as Death Note, Hunter x Hunter, One Punch Man, and so much more. If you haven't heard of Madhouse, then you're definitely not watching enough anime or even cartoons. Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works (TV) || Anime Review

Eyyy and we are back with another anime review, today we are going to tackle another Fate series called Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works. It also had a movie shown back in 2010, which pretty much has the same plot. But for this post, we will be reviewing the anime itself. As we all know it is produced and created by the same people who made Fate/Zero (<--- Read the review too, please~~~ ) fellow Type-Moon and Ufotable.  It is based on the visual novel, which follows a completely different route from the first Fate/Stay Night (read that review too, *winks*) series that aired back in 2006. This time, there are different perspectives and of course, choice of love interests are far more different. Now let us move forward, shall we?

PLOT

Okay let me break it down for you......well, the usual happens. Shirou and Rin Tohsaka join the Holy Grail War, where one can attain the Holy Grail and get whatever they want. Of course, they need to summon servants; Rin gets Archer and Shirou gets Saber. They team up together to eliminate other enemies and the Holy Grail itself, because...well, it's too...evil. Your Lie in April || Anime Review

Heyyo, I am back with another anime review and we are going to talk about Shigatsu wa Kimi No Uso or commonly known as, Your Lie In April. This was based on a manga series shown in Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Magazine, and it was animated by the studio A-1 Pictures (Erased, Sword Art Online, Fairy Tail, and Black Butler). This drama was directed by Kyohei Ishiguro (Fairy Tail) and written by Takao Yoshioka (Elfen Lied). This is also a music anime and the music was done by Masaru Yokoyama (Scum's Wish, Mobile Suit Gundam; Iron-Blooded Orphans). The anime aired back in 2014 and ended in 2015, and is known to be yet another tear-jerking series that tugs at not only your heart, but also your soul.

Plot

Okay let me break it down for you; Kousei Arima was considered a piano prodigy at such a young age, but a terrible event in his life discourages him from continuing music. Whenever he attempts to play a piano, his trauma returns and he suddenly cannot hear the notes and abruptly stops playing. His life has become quite dull, boring, and even sad due to the lack of closure of his past wounds until he meets a cheerful young violinist named Kaori Miyazono, whose unconventional passion for music brings technicolor into Kousei's life. The two gradually build a strong emotional bond together over their love for music, and little does Kousei know that Kaori is not only helping him get back on his feet, but is also keeping a devastating secret that might shatter him once more (source: Classic )

Yuri!!! On Ice || Anime Review

Welcome to the tamandeggs blog, guys! My comeback definitely means more anime reviews to come. Today I want to start it off with one of the most high-praised anime of 2016, and that is Yuri!!! On Ice. It comes from the studio that gave you Terror In Resonance and Punch Line. It is directed by Sayo Yamamoto (Lupin the Third: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine, Michiko and Hachin) and written by Mitsuro Kubo (Moteki, Tokkyuu!!). It is deemed as best anime of 2016 in a couple of Anime Awards like Crunchyroll. It was actually the best for many things. But setting fangirling aside, is this anime truly worth its praises? For this review, we will try to see why it is considered the best and how a sports anime was able to top the other shows that aired in the previous year. So sit back and relax, fangirls (and boys). Let's make history!

BORUTO: NARUTO NEXT GENERATIONS || First Impression

Whaddup guys! For today's post I'd like to talk about Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, the sequel to the Naruto series. The anime is based from the manga of the same name, but the story begins five years before the events in the manga and the Boruto movie occurred. There was a mix of excitement and of concern when Kishimoto made it official to turn Boruto's story into an Anime series. Some people think that it is unnecessary and that it will not live up to the Naruto era (even if the director, Noriyuki Abe, says that the anime will not try so hard to be exactly like the previous series of Kishimoto). But there are others who believe that this show is definitely meant for the next generation of Anime viewers, just like the Naruto series was meant for the previous generations--hence the overlapping title. For this blog post, I'd like to express my thoughts on the Boruto series and maybe make a little comparison of this with Naruto. This will not be that much of an anime review, but more of a first impression. Please read on.

13 Reasons Why: Is it A Good Show?

Hey what's up! Happy 3RD ANNIVERSARY to this blog. Can't believe that it has already been three years since I started posting (ignoring the fact that I went on a year-long hiatus). Here's to more reviews, fangirling, and other random sh***! If you've been reading my blog (and are reading this right now), thank you so much for your support. I am looking forward to see this blog grow.

Anyway, to celebrate my blog's 3rd birthday, I am gonna talk about something very controversial! Isn't that always the way? Like I said, I want to be a bit more opinionated and I want this blog to go about this new format (that I'm still figuring out). So today, we are gonna talk about 13 Reasons Why, one of the most popular Netflix shows of 2017. This show was released back in March, and--even though it is based on the novel that was written years ago--it has immediately gained popularity and eventually its own fanbase. Insane! It has also been recently announced that the show is renewed for a second season....while Sense8 is canceled. ANYWAY!

Yes, I have read the book and I have seen this popular Netflix series. I honestly can see why people love it...but at the same time, I can also see why people hate it. That's right, this show not only received great feedback, but it's gotten a couple of backlashes, as well. This has something to do with the story itself and the recurring themes that reflect some real-life issues that teenagers have to deal with everyday. And I am here to talk about that.

IM BACK! FOR REALS THIS TIME

Hey guys! I AM BACK!!!!!!

I guess I owe you guys an explanation (assuming I still have viewers, but whatever).

So I guess it all started with some internet problems I experienced during the late of May 2016. I could not access my browser or my apps, and it was crazy. I thought that my network was having some sort of technical difficulty so I decided to wait it out. I had a feeling it would be fixed in a month...then it became two months...then three. During those times, I lost the momentum that I had when I was posting blogs and I was really disappointed in myself. The -Ber months have already hit, and my internet was a bit wonky.

I know I shouldn't use crappy internet as an excuse, but I also suddenly lost time. By June 2016, I had my practicum and I was working 24/7, morning to night. And that period of my life was very exhausting. Also,  I was anxiously finishing up my thesis at the time. After all the hectic things in my life, I decided to have my internet connection fixed. But once it was, I decided not to jump into blogging right away. Why? Because it was Christmas vacation by the time it was fixed and I really wanted a break. Also since then, I haven't been watching enough Anime, Movies, or TV shows. I didn't have any book to read. So I wanted to catch up on with that before I blogged and believe me, and that took months.

Looking back, however, I realized that I was mostly reluctant and I had no idea why I felt that way. I enjoyed whatever I posted here and it didn't matter to me whether or not I had enough traffic. It was more than enough for me to have this tiny space where I can express random thoughts and opinions on many aspects of pop culture. Maybe because I needed the right inspiration, but whatever. I am back hahaha.

So what have I been up to lately? Well, like I said, I finished the major requirements for college, which are my thesis and my practicum. Very stressful, but I am grateful to have been able to finish them last year. I've never felt more accomplished in my life. I am still continuing school, though, because I have a few units left before graduation. Apart from that, I've been binge watching interesting anime, and other TV shows that do not involve Superheroes--surprisingly enough--and I cannot wait to share them in this very blog. Hopefully I do not get lazy or reluctant, again. Ah, it actually feels great to type once more.

Also, my blog's birthday is coming up, so I am coming up with something very special for it as we speak. It shall be my ultimate comeback post. But also, I want to change up my content just a little. I want to be more opinionated this time, so most of my blogs might follow an editorial format. And my following posts will be about the most random things in anime, TV, and movies. I don't know exactly how to go about it yet, but all I know is that I want to be more bold with my opinions and thoughts. I think its time.

Anyway, I am so glad to be back. I will try my best to post more often, now that I've got the time. So once again, till the next post~

This post is really late, but hello all! Now that Civil War is out, I think it is time for me to talk about the Avengers. As fangirls, we see these people differently. This means they are more than just random superheroes in comic books. They're our family, helpless children that need protection,perhaps even our whole world (that would be really sad, if that were the case). Anyway, I decided to talk about what would the Avengers be like if they were a full-blooded family. Because they seem like family members, and if they have the potential to be part of a special season of Fuller House. Oh wait...

Basically, I just assign who gets to be the mom and who gets to be the baby that throws the tantrums? Let us find out.

So I think this is everyone, I just think. But I am fully aware there are a lot of members in the Avengers, but most are not recognized as much. I also know Spiderman isn't part of the Avenger, I guess that explains why he's called Underoo by Ironman. Anyway, I apologize in advance if your favorite Avenger is not mentioned in this blog post at all. I will probably mention more that are not in this picture, so let's get started.

I don't have anything really special planned today, but at the end of this post I will discuss an idea for my blog. It is something that's hopefully going to add a little spice to this page so stay tuned for that. For now, I'd like to discuss something that means a lot to me. Of course, they are superhero films. Here's the thing. I enjoy Disney. I enjoy Barbie movies. But they're not my first love. My first love is Batman and Spiderman. When I was young, Batman and Spiderman has been one of my regular shows to watch especially when I'm bored. And I'm not gonna tell you which Batman and Spiderman shows they were because that's just gonna reveal how immortal I really am. Anyway, I love Superheroes. I may not read comics as much as others, but I really love Superheroes. I think they're cool, they have great stories to tell and I am a sucker for great stories. We get a lot of it, and I think this is the perfect time to talk about it, now that Captain America: Civil War is going to show in my country this week (I am so excited!). 

Having all these phases for Marvel & DC, but there's something wrong with Superhero films nowadays. For the longest time, I've been trying to pinpoint what that was. Now I have. Without further adieu, let me talk about the problem I have with superhero films today.

Okay let me break it down for you; Nothing much has changed for Japan; the Sibyl System still runs the town and uses the Psycho-Pass to measure one's mental stability and dictate one's life. Akane Tsunemori is now head of the 1st Division of the MWPSB and manages a new group of enforcers (latent criminals who are tasked to search for other criminals), as well as a junior investigator. She is faced with a brand new enemy. This is a mysterious man named Kamui, and he is said to have the ability to cleanse one's Psycho-Pass and not have them to worry about it getting clouded anymore. This poses a threat to the Sibyl System, and Akane's team is tasked to find him and eliminate him.

I have to say, people of the Shadowhunter fandom has been through a lot. They've been through the incest, the excessive love triangles, the passion cries for the right casting for the film, the movie itself, the failure of the movie, and finally this. The Mortal Instruments converted itself into a television series on Freeform, and it started to air last January of 2016. Before the series even began, the reactions to this has been a mix-bag. Everyone was pretty comfortable with the movie casting, so I can understand if everyone panicked when the casting has been brought to a clean slate. Then the trailers came, and people worried. It was easy to say that the budget given to this series is not as big compared to most, and it is quite evident in the special effects. Plus, a lot of people were not comfortable with the acting skills of the actors and actresses portraying the characters. Recently, the series has ended and it has been renewed for a second season in 2017. Now the question remains...did it give justice to the Shadowhunter fandom? Today is day 2 of the Shadowhunters discussion, and we are going to talk about the movie that showed during 2013.  Yesterday, I discussed the book and if you want to see that before diving into this, you can click here. For this post, I will not go on and on about how it was not loyal to the source material (a.k.a. book), because it is just a movie adaptation. These kinds of things do not necessarily have to be extremely accurate to the original story. The movie is based on the book, and it is not the book. In my opinion, movie adaptations are all right just as long as they can still make a good story. Yes, I am looking at you Percy Jackson movies. Anyway, I just watched the film again last night and I have a lot to say about it.

When I heard that this movie was going to happen, I had my reservations. Then the casting news came, and all I could do was nod. And then the production designs were teased, my eyes gleamed for a moment. Finally, the trailer and pictures came, and I became even more excited. The movie looked aesthetically good so I couldn’t wait to see it in theaters. And guess what? I did, and did I like it? Well…

The first season of Shadowhunters is officially over! To commemorate its success in television, I'd like to stroll down memory lane and talk about everything that you may need to know about The Mortal Instruments. By doing that, I am going to spend three days discussing about the book, movie, and of course the TV series. These are not really reviews, but more of thoughtful detailed discussions on what I liked and disliked about this fandom. If you've been following my blog for quite some time, then I am sure you are aware that I am part of the Shadowhunter fandom. I love the stories of the Shadowhunter, mostly because they are compelling, suspenseful, romantic (???), and thrilling. It's all you can ask for in a typical Young Adult series.  For part one, I am going to talk about the thing that started it all; the book itself. But I will only be discussing the first book of the Mortal Instruments, which is The City of Bones, since the TV series and movie based their storylines here. This week, I took some time rereading it and studying it. So let's get started.

The Story: Clary Fray is just your average teenager until she started to feel insane. Well, this is because she began to see things that are out of the ordinary. She would see people with wings or fangs, or even cat-like eyes. She even witnesses a murder committed by a bunch of teenagers that only she could see. The confusion and hysterics continue until Clary's overprotective mother goes missing, leaving their house trashed and attacked with no explanation. Clary had no choice but to seek the help of the murderers she saw earlier, only to learn that everything that she had in her life was a lie. Turns out, she was a Shadowhunter, a part-human and part-angel that serves to protect the humans from demons. She inherited this from her mother, who was assumed to be kidnapped by Valentine; a megalomaniac whose mission is to grab the Mortal Cup and to use it for his dark purposes. Clary and her newfound Shadowhunter friends attempt to find the Mortal Cup before it reaches to the evil clutches of Valentine. 

Let's Review! Psycho-Pass

I am on a roll here. Today, I am going to be reviewing another hyped (is it?) anime called Psycho-Pass. It is produced by the infamous Production I.G. (Blood+, Ghost in the Shell, xxxHolic) under the direction of Naoyoshi Shiotani and Katsuyuki Motohiro, and it is written by Gen Urobuchi (Fate/Zero, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Aldnoah Zero 2nd Season). It's been on my to-watch list for quite some time. A lot of people that I know personally has recommended this to me, as well. The same goes when I surf the web for top anime lists. This made me even more puzzled about the series. Finally, iFlix's free trial has allowed me to see it. Currently, the anime has two seasons. But for this review, I shall focus on the first season, because season 2 follows a different story and doing a critique on both storylines might give me a headache. So here we go.

Okay, let me break it down for you; In the 22nd century, Japan has completely given in to the wonders of science and technology. The biggest breakthrough is the Sibyl System, which is a high form of technology that serves to uphold law and justice. It does so by looking at everyone's Psycho-Pass, which measures one's mental state and crime coefficient (the higher the number, the most likely you are to become a criminal). The Psycho-Pass determines how mentally healthy you are by looking at your hue or color. If it is light and clear, then the Sibyl System will be able to give you a good job and a very stable life. If it becomes dark and cloudy, then you are in need of therapy. But when worse comes to worse, your crime coefficient may be too high, making therapy an impossible option. You either become a latent criminal or you have to be severely eliminated. We get to view this dystopian world in the eyes of Japan's police force or the MWPSB--particularly Unit One and their enforcers, who are latent criminals who are given a chance to work-- and we get to see how they uphold the standards of the Sibyl System.
