Whenever he attempts to play a piano, his trauma returns and he suddenly cannot hear the notes and abruptly stops playing. His life has become quite dull, boring, and even sad due to the lack of closure of his past wounds until he meets a cheerful young violinist named Kaori Miyazono, whose unconventional passion for music brings technicolor into Kousei's life.
