The 7 Realities of Selfie Culture

I am not going to lie. I actually love taking selfies. It just so happens that I don't post them all because I do not want to appear like a self-obsessed freak on the internet, which I am not. And this leads me to the whole idea of the Selfie Culture. A long time ago, we would all use our cameras sparingly--we bring it out only during times of special occasions like birthdays or graduation. But with the advancement of technology and the newly-enhanced front cameras we get each year, every moment we receive suddenly counts as a special occasion. Whenever we buy a new pair of shoes, we have to study for a hardcore exam, or even when we're just sick in bed, we document the visuals in our smartphones. That's the Selfie culture. If you still think it does not exist, here are seven instances that prove that it truly exists.

1.) The existence of Photography Mobile apps
It's not a question that smartphones are now a thing among us. And if you are one of those people downloading Vscocam just to make your Instagram pictures look hipster or Tumblr-esque, then welcome to the world of Selfies.

2.) When you take more than one selfie and only pick that one special  shot to post to your Instagram
I'm not saying this is a bad thing. There's nothing wrong with expanding your options in terms of camera roll shots. But the idea of just picking the right selfie is not enough for us to realize that we are idolizing this brand new way of life.

3.) When likes suddenly matter
Upon entering the world of Selfies, we tend to wonder why our other friends get at least a hundred likes per selfie. For me, I am still trying to calculate the factors contributing to this surprising phenomenon. Is it because of the quality of camera? Is it because my friend can actually pose? Is it the popularity? The effects of the filter maybe? That moment when that person suddenly looked photogenic? Seriously, what did they do to get celebrity-accumulated likes?

4.) The dawn of selfie sticks!
Oh please. Do I really have to explain this?

5.) There are songs and published works talking about the selfie
But first...let me take a selfie!

6.)  When you take your picture-taking to the next level
You get extra lenses for your phone's camera, you actually ask someone to seriously take photos of you, you add more photography apps, you find a cute pet to pose next to you when you're really posing for yourself and not the innocent creature...you basically become an amateur photographer when it comes to your phone.

7.) When selfies plays a major part in building your self-esteem
Again, this is not a bad thing. If you feel confident just because you think you look aesthetically good in your pictures, then knock yourself out. It is time for this generation to stop putting themselves down and start embracing every part of their bodies. Selfies actually play a really big part in character building, unless you let it do its magic the right way. Seeing those great comments about your dress is great. And knowing that there are people who find you really pretty or hot, is good. We are actually exercising common courtesy here. Nonetheless, selfies help in confidence boosts at the time.

20 Smartphone Problems

More fun editing at www.canva.com !!!
We are at the age of smartphones and near the peak of technology. So yeah, it is no longer unusual to see cellphones with different kinds of features anymore. Furthermore, it looks like anyone (even a kid) can have one nowadays. Of course, big occurrences like these come with tiny problems that we tend to laugh about. And I'm going to share a "few"

1.) Wifi- Sure, you got amazing and very useful apps and features on your phone. But once you reach a "No Wifi" Zone, then there's high chance that your smartphone will become 90% useless.
2.) Picking a Phone Case- Phone cases are complements to a Smartphone and they are meant to simply protect your device. However, the big emergence of iPhones and Samsung Galaxy S Phones caused the Phone case business to step up their game. Now they're more than just protective casing. They add a much more personalized touch and you end up getting more than two. Picking the right case for your phone is the trick.
3.) Putting it in your pocket- Well Smartphones are no longer considered cellphones, that's for sure. With the brand new iPhone 6 and 6+, it has become clear to everyone that bigger phones are now the new thing. That means, we can't conveniently put them in our pockets anymore. It's either they are deep inside our bags or at the palm of our hands.
4.) Putting on the screen protector- Yes, this has been a problem before. Put it on your screen the wrong way, you get the "bubble" issue to deal with. But just like the phone case, we kind of need this unless we want our screens to be filled with scratches. But sometimes the screen protector itself gets too scratched that it needs replacing too.
5.) The fear of getting robbed- No matter how important your phone may seem, it is still a luxury item and it can get robbed. So more reason for us to become more attached to our beloved smartphones.

6.) Taking the perfect selfie- For some odd reason, the smartphone has managed to boost people's self-esteem. And it is all thanks to the selfie and the invention of the front camera. I am not saying they're bad, in fact I think taking selfies are great. But a lot of people take so much selfies to the point we all create a standard of what a good selfie is, according to our preferences. So it is not really surprising if you know someone who has a gallery full of selfies. Taking the right photo is not that simple, anymore.
7.) Using more apps to improve your perfect selfie- Instasize. Vscocam. Apps that can change your eye color. This consumes much more of our time in editing the selfie of our choice, to make it even better.
8.) Picking filters- Before we officially post our photo on Instagram, we will still have to through this dilemma. Sometimes were not even sure if a filter will make or break your photo. And the thought of it can be quite nerve-racking.
9.) Having a front camera of low-quality- What's the point of showing the world your beautiful face when your front camera is less than 5 megapixels?
10.) Being judged while taking a selfie in public- Sure, taking selfies are not unusual. But you still can't help but think what other will people say about you as you take your photo.

11.) Getting a useful app that you end up not using- "I am going to download this fitness app and gain more weight for the rest of my days."
12.) Getting a not-so useful app that you end up using A LOT- "Talking Tom is just so fun to use!"
13.) Downloading an app that turns out to be bogus- That feeling when you had a good feeling about this app, but it turns out to be the exact opposite.
14.) Having to delete some apps because it's eating up your memory- When your memory becomes full, you have no choice but to sacrifice a few things in your phone and that is a dilemma. You can't seem to let go of all the apps in your phone. You just can't. Unless you experienced problem #13
15.) Game apps- Need I say more?

16.) Memory- Again, need I say more?
17.) Updating your software- Who has the effin' time to download a brand new software?
18.) When a new model comes out- Oh great, now my iPhone has a higher chance of not getting the new iOs update now. Why? Well I don't know...because in the eyes of technology, my phone is considered old.
19.) Battery Power- The sight of an almost empty battery while you are still out and about in the middle of the day can be a terrifying and troublesome experience.
20.) It's becoming more of a necessity than a luxury- Whether we like it or not, we need smartphones... or do we not? That is the question.
